If you’re not living under a rock, you know that wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen is a must all year round. To protect your skin from the sun’s aging effects, you need to reapply sunscreen every two hours. But what if you’re wearing makeup? Rubbing it in or removing your makeup every two hours is not ideal. The solution is simple: choose the right sunscreen and do a top-up application over your makeup.

Choose the Right Sunscreen

Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Find a formula that suits your skin type and lifestyle. Apply it as part of your morning skincare routine before applying makeup. My personal favourite is Sheer Hydration by AlumierMD.

Reapplication or Top-Up?

Reapplication every two hours is essential for better skin results and preventing premature lines and dry skin. If your sunscreen has been removed or compromised, fully top up with another 1/3 of a teaspoon on your face and neck. If your initial application is still in place but slightly compromised, do a top-up application over your makeup.

How to Do a Top-Up Application whilst wearing makeup

Activate the colour of your tinted sunscreen such as Moisture Matt by AlumierMD on the back of your hand, then pat it into the skin with a clean makeup sponge or brush. Add bronzer or blush over the top for a protection boost and complexion refresh.

Remember that no sunscreen can completely block UV radiation, so embrace the shade and make sunscreen reapplication and top-ups part of your life for better skin goals.
