Excessive sweating treatment – Hyperhydrosis

Excessive sweating treatment

Hyperhidrosis disorder is a condition that results in excessive sweating.  This sweating can occur in unusual situations, such as in cooler weather, or without any trigger at all.

For some people excessive sweating can be a constant worry, or perhaps they have a special event coming up, for example a wedding, and don’t want the inconvenience of worrying about sweat marks.

Excessive sweating treatment involves injections of botulinum toxin aka Botox (commonly used for wrinkles).  The toxin works by blocking the chemical at the end of the nerves so that it cannot work on the glands or muscles.  In the case of the sweat glands it turns then off to reduce sweating.  Usually the treatment is effective from the first treatment.  If your condition is severe you may need several injections before this treatment becomes effective but in my experience this is not common.

The treatment takes around 15 minutes, has little to no down time.  I do several small injections of botulinum toxin a few centimetres apart in the armpit or other body area.  Treatment takes around 10 days to become fully effective and results last around 3-5 months.

I have seen treatment for excessive sweating transform the confidence of my patients.  If your aim is to reduce the embarrassment and inconvenience caused by overactive sweat glands, this hyperhydrosis treatment could be a safe and convenient option for you.
